Dressing Miss America

Nina Davuluri made history last year by being the first Indian American to win the prestigioius crown of Miss America. It was a very special moment for Nina and the Asian community as the girl next door beauty icon of America now represents true cultural diversity.

We had the pleasure of dressing the newly crowned Miss America, at her first Indian photo shoot during her whirlwind press tour of London. Styling her at The Marylebone Hotel for the Asiana Magazine photoshoot, we had the privilege to dress her exclusively in Variety Silk House clothing. Nina Davuluri was an absolute gem to work with. All of our clothes looked gorgeous on her and she was a very charming lady, beautiful on the inside and out.

The first look that we dressed her in was inpsired by the Mughal era trend, with a beautiful and elegant flared net and chiffon saree. We paired the saree with our statement long sleeved blouse, which became the focal point of her look. Accessories were kept to a minimum to highlight the statement front neck jewelled embroidery on the blouse. At Variety Silk House, we love pairing sarees with one of our statement blouses, as it instantly lifts the whole ensemble to a whole different style level.

The second outfit was a golden princess look complete with the Miss America crown. Nina wears a beautiful embroidered corset top with gold and red jewels over a mermaid style golden net skirt and a net scarf. She shone like a true star in our Variety Silk House clothes and we loved the final image from the photoshoot. This outfit is available exclusively in store so come and try it on while it is hot off the press!

Nina was so excited right through the shoot of being able to dress in clothes from her Indian culture and we were honoured to be able to work with her at such an iconic moment in time.  She felt like a ‘bollywood barbie’ on set and was styled to perfection.

It was such a pleasure meeting Nina, and we wish her all the best for her coming year as Miss America.
